Recognition

Christmas tree One of my favourite choirs in Canada today is the Spiritus Chamber Choir in Calgary under the artistic direction of Timothy Shantz. I’m going to play several of their pieces over the next three weeks, starting today with this beautiful setting of “Thou Shalt Know Him When He Comes” by Ontario composer Mark Sirett.

Thou Shalt Know Him (anonymous)

Thou shalt know him when he comes,
Not by any din of drums,
Nor his manners, nor his airs,
Nor by any thing he wears.

Thou shalt know him when he comes,
Not by a crown nor by a gown,
But his coming known shall be,
By the holy harmony
Which his coming makes in thee.
Thou shalt know him when he comes.
